Alternative beings - play as architectural imprint
Fired clay
2022

LOCATION

The Golden Lane Estate, London
Wild London clay, extracted and processed during the Golden Earth Studio project, read more about the project here.

Once fired, these clay creatures became permanent inhabitants within the hard geometry of London’s Brutalist architecture.

Inspired by the sculptural playgrounds of the Brutalist era and the work of Isamu Noguchi, the creatures draw on the shapes and possibilities of play and translate them into permanent sculptural forms.

The creatures speak to a time when play was incorporated into the architecture of everyday life, beginning a dialogue around the importance of retaining space for play within our built environment.
